Mission Statement

Time for Parenting has been set up to challenge the economic and social pressures which make it difficult for parents to prioritise family life - and in particular the time needed to raise children.

Who we are

We are a group of concerned parents who feel the balance in our society has swung too far towards valuing and rewarding paid work at the expense of unpaid caring work and community investment. We want to redress this balance. We particularly highlight the need that children - from babies to young adults - have for the care, support and guidance of their parents.

Our Vision

We look forward to:

• a society that prioritises the natural bond between parent and child as the cornerstone of emotional wellbeing, and that values mothers and fathers who invest time in caring for the family.
• a society where social capital, including unpaid care work, is valued as highly as economic capital.
• a society which values the contribution an individual can make over the whole of their lifetime, not just when they are in paid work.
• a society lived at a slower, less materialistic pace, which combats emotional and relational poverty as vigorously as financial poverty.
• a society in which adults strive to be positive role models for the next generation, working together to build supportive communities and place the wellbeing of children at the centre of decision-making.

Time for parenting has no religious or political affiliation. We seek to complement the work of other family campaigning organisations, to facilitate debate and to encourage meaningful dialogue between parents and policy-makers. Time for Parenting has no paid staff.
